The Innocent Bystander guys did it again. If you haven't seen "Debt's Coming" yet I suggest you order it from their website, which is Innocentbystander.net you can find it there, or if you know someone who has it watch it now. So, for those of us who are familiar with the IB crew from Jersey, you know that these boys are creative and are badasses on the BMX. Rick Whitehead just sent me out a copy of their latest creation called T.O.B.R.O.D. or till our beards reach our dicks. Not too sure what the exact meaning of the title is but I like it none the less. The DVD title states that it is the first of a series, I fucking hope so.
TOBROD starts out with a crazy intro of BMX, some sort of Vietnam war footage, and indigenous people killing an elephant. Disturbing yes, artsy probably, creative check, the IB guys always have amazing footage and different takes on what a bike video should be. Also, some dude with dreads does an Indian giver rollback and they flash a portrait of a native American, genius. TOBROD then goes into a mix section after mix section, as if you just created a great mix CD off your itunes then slapped some great riding for visuals on it. The whole thing goes without names, so if you're not familiar with the riders then your shit out of luck. I like this idea, it's a unity feeling or like being on a team. No one person is more important then the other and you get to concentrate on the riding and filming instead of trying to read everyones name in small print on the side of the screen. Midway through the video Tucson locals known only by "Krimzen" ride nothing but pools. This small but to the point section is a great relief to the almost all street riding the video has. If you love street and you're a spot whore I suggest you get this video and keep your eye's open for the next in the series. Here's a little trailer for the video. Oh and one other thing I would like to add, the only other time I've seen more poles being ridden was in a Mexican strip club. ZING!
T.O.B.R.O.D. Trailer Series 1 from IB! on Vimeo.
In conclusion, buy this and help support your friends and real bike riders being creative to better the lifestyle we call bmx. Thanks Rick for sending me the copy I can't wait till the next one!
